Updated: Nov 4, 2020

This page contains detailed information about the network at Sea Power Shipping new office. Magnum Computerware was contracted to design install and commission the following Network Components: Structured Cabling, Network Switches, Routers and Load Balancer, Wireless Access Points for Wi-Fi Propagation, Door Access and Attendance Monitoring, and Surveillance Systems

Project Description and Scope of Work

A structured cabling system is a complete system of cabling and related hardware, which provides a comprehensive telecommunications infrastructure. This infrastructure serves a wide range of uses, such as provide voice telecommunication or transmit data through a computer network. Magnum Computerware provide the below components for the LAN network for Sea Power Shipping requirements.

Clients requirements for Structured Cabling

Provide hard wired connectivity for 93 Data Nodes Application and 92 Voice Nodes Application, Supply and Install 6 Feet Floor Mount Server Rack (5th Floor) MDF, Supply and Install 1.5 Feet Wall Mount Server Rack (4th Floor) IDF.

4th Floor Under Construction

4th Floor Horizontal Cabling (Week 1)

For horizontal cabling on 4th floor, Magnum Computerware and SPS IT Personnel assign the Computer Room for IDF location. 2 units of 24 port (12 port POE/each) HP Network switch are installed inside the 1.5 ft wall mount data cabinet. This network switches will connect all 4th floor data/voice equipment's including end-user data and voice outlet, access point for waiting area and cctv camera. Cat 6 copper cable covered by pvc pipe and plastic flexible hose is used for horizontal cabling. For the work area components, 3 meter machine fabricated Cat6 patch cord are used for each workstation connected to data outlets of horizontal cabling. All data and voice nodes on 4th floor have been test and tagged accordingly.

IDF Location

4th Floor to 5th Floor Backbone Cabling (Week 2)

Magnum Computerware installed 10 run Legrand UTP Cable cat 6 between MDF (Located at 5th Floor IT Room) and IDF (Located at 4th floor Computer Room) for back-bone connectivity.

Installation of conduit for backbone cabling on 5th Floor

5th Floor Horizontal Cabling (Week 2 to Week 4)

For horizontal cabling on 5th floor. Magnum Computerware and SPS IT Personnel assign the IT Room for MDF location. All network equipment's are installed in 6 ft floor mount server rack. It compose of loaded patch panel, 3 unit of network switch for data, access point, biometric, and cctv camera connectivity, network video recorder for camera recording, router and load balancer. Same with 4th floor, Cat 6 copper cable covered by pvc pipe and plastic flexible hose is used for horizontal cabling. Additional plastic moldings and aluminum split tube are use for the cable drop from ceiling to floor. Also 3 meter machine fabricated Cat6 patch cord are used for each workstation connected to data outlets of horizontal cabling. All data and voice nodes on 5th floor have been test and tagged accordingly.

Technical Configuration (Week 5)

Before the implementation started, SPS was consulted on the various settings, such as Access Point configuration, IP address to be used on router, load balance/fail-over configuration, cctv camera recording retention, etc.

Load Balancer, Network Switches and Routers

For 3 network switch at 5th floor (MDF), VLAN 1 is set for VLAN ID, IP address set to DHCP and both username and password is retain as default. Same config applied on 2 network switch at 4th floor (IDF). For the Router located at 5th floor (MDF), IP address is set to 192.168.1.1 and both username and password is retain as default as advised by SPS IT. And for the load balancer, default configuration is applied.

Wireless Access Points for Wi-Fi Propagation

Magnum Computerware create a temporary configuration for the 5 units of access point (1 unit at 4th floor and 4 units at 5th floor). As per SPS IT advised, Magnum Computerware is create 1 group name and 1 ssid for the 5 units of access point, this will eliminate the disconnection or re-connection process of end-user device from the wifi. Final Configuration Setting was done by SPS IT Personnel.

Door Access and Attendance Monitoring

SPS decided to install their magnetic door lock and attendance monitoring at door entrance and door exit of Main Lobby located at 5th floor. Existing configuration and data from there old biometric device have been migrated to new biometric (ZKTeco).

Surveillance Systems

Magnum Computerware installed a total of 16 Channel 2 MP IP camera that covers all the corner of their two floors office and a video retention that can hold up to a month for playback purposes.
